Happy Birthday Sam!
Sam's birthday was this last week. He is such a fun boy and we sure do love him! He decided he wants to be a doctor when he grows up. His favorite thing in the world is dinosaurs and his favorite of the week is the triceratops. One of the things I love most about Sam is that he is everyone's friend and is very good with his sister who he is very good at getting to laugh.

Reading
Katie decided to read to Lilly to make her happy. All the kids are really good about helping out so I can get dinner done. It was fun to watch Katie share one of her favorite activities with her sister.
Buried Alive
The kids were trying to make Lilly happy by surrounding her with their favorite toys and stuffed animals to play with. So cute! Unfortunately, it was just not going to work this time.
Great Grandma
My kids are so lucky to have great grandparents. Here is Lilly with my grandma. A very special lady whose nearing the end of her battle with cancer. I'm going to miss her so much when she's gone and am so glad for the time we've had.
Toothless
Jacob lost one of his two front teeth. This makes the third tooth that he has lost. He was not excited at all about me wanting to take a picture of this momentous occasion. He said he thought he looked silly and didn't want a picture of it.
I told him he looked cute. No improvement.I threatened him with not calling the tooth fairy to report the missing tooth if he didn't smile. A small improvement.
Finally I pulled out the big guns. Silly quotes from books to make him forget he isn't supposed to be smiling. Our recent book has been Lizzie Bright and Buckminster Boy by Gary D. Schmidt, so I told him "Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeee yyyyyyyoooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuu ssssssssssllllllllllooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww?" That got him. The power of reading!
He told me very seriously that he won't be able to pronounce "thistle" until his tooth comes back like in the song "All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth". I'm also happy to report that he isn't shy about it anymore. It's his warrior strips for growing up.
The Little Mermens
The boys thought it would be fun to fit their legs into one of their pajama pants legs and pretend they were mermen. They are so silly and imaginative. I never thought of there being more than one way to wear clothes until I had kids. I love it!

A bit of heaven on earth...
Another winner from Cook's Illustrated, it uses almond flour (almonds ground up really fine in the blender), butter, chocolate, fresh raspberries, and seedless raspberry jelly for the filling. Only a little bit of flour. It was so dense but really moist. Each time I had a piece, I had to have two. Even now as I'm writing this I wish there was some left to have for breakfast.
